The first step is determining gifts based on age appropriateness. The toy you get your toddler is different than what you’d get your middle schooler. Preparing Your Work Area For Reborning

Preparation of the area you are using to create your reborn dolls is essential. Organisation is the key to being prepared for every step of the reborning process. You will need a large table or flat working surface to place your mixing plates, brushes and paints. The surface area needs to be free of clutter and covered with a vinyl tablecloth that can be easily wiped over with a wet cloth for cleaning. A dowel rod board is also an important tool to have for drying and baking your limbs. Creating this board is easy. At your local hardware, you will be able to purchase a board of timber approximately 40cm by 10cm, and a dowel rod with a thickness of around 1cm. Cut the dowel into four pieces 15cm in width and evenly spaced across the board, standing up with a gap between each of around 8cm. Glue into  position and add a nail into the base of the board from the underside to hold the dowel in place. Be aware of this area when taking it out of the oven, the nail heads will be hot.

This board will serve you well as a stable rack to hold your limbs between layers, and will keep the limbs from touching each other when heatsetting your paint. Your brushes and paint need to be easily accessible and visible when mixing your colours. Having these displayed at close proximity to your work area will enable you to mix your paint quickly and keep the blend flowing. Always have a substantial supply of toothpicks, cotton tips, tissues and sponges. These are constantly used during the reborning process to remove unwanted detail or lighten heavy effects in your paint. Having them close at hand is crucial when adding detail to creased areas. If you are working in the same area as your oven, you will need to open windows and doors to make sure you have airflow. Depending on the kit you use, sometimes the fumes can give you a slight headache. Fresh air is essential. Once you have finished your heatsetting it is recommended that you turn your oven up to a high heat to burn off any fumes that may be lingering.  Reborning is a relaxing and very addictive pastime. Having the right area to create your reborns will add to the pleasure of the craft, and keep you organised at the same time.

Make Plush Toys The Easy Way

Plush Toys, also known as Stuffed toys, are a favorite of many people especially children and they can be made at home using some of the already available materials. The Whole process is easy and fun because you make it from step one up to the finish. It is also a great avenue for making customized gifts for your friends and family or just for the home decoration.

Once you have decided on this venture, you need to select the type of fabric that will work best with your needs. Some of the fabrics you might use include cotton fleece and other cuddly ones. It is also important that you collect all the materials you need before you start your project. Some of them include thread, stuffing, scissors and needle.

The first step in any creation is the design. As per your needs and requirements you need to make the designs of the plush toys you intend to create and for this, you may need a pencil and paper large enough for the size you need. The design can be of anything such as animals, plants, abstract images, shapes and other things. Once you have created the best design, it is time to move to the next step.

You will need to lay the pattern over the piece of fabric that you will use. Ensure that it has been placed appropriately before you trace the design with a chalk or pencil. The next step is to cut the fabric according to the pattern, keep the extra material well as they can be used to add more features to the plush toys after completion. Once this has been done, you need to sew the parts of the fabric together. With the pieces inside out, sew all rounds but leave one side for inserting the stuffing.

Ensure the other parts of they are well sewn, you may use a sawing machine or just basic needle and thread. The stuffing for parts such as arms and legs should be well inserted to give them a balanced appearance. You can use the eraser end of the pencil or chopsticks to fill the stuffing into these areas as well as other small parts. Using the additional material or other fabric, you need to make ears, eyes and other parts of the body if you are making dolls or animals. The eyes should be sewn on the places for balance while the nose and mouth should be out in place by use of double strand of thread in order to make them more firm and strong.

Some of the tips you can use on this project are available to you and some include drawing your inspiration from different areas such as books and already made models. In terms of design, you may scan samples from books and magazines to get a good image. You can also try as many designs and fabrics as you want to get the desired effect.

Making plush toys is not a hard task because you can use already available materials in the home. Plush toys can be great gifts or decorative items for you.

Stuffed toys came to existence in the early 1800′s. Those were the days wherein they were made at home and straw was used as a stuffing. It’s made to be cuddly and became a favorite comfort toy. Plush toys, especially patterned after a bear, are still loved up to this day. Earlier these toys were patterned closely after the animal that it’s portraying. But nowadays, they are made cuter by adjusting some features like making the eyes bigger and the nose smaller. The cuteness factor added to its appeal.

They are also very popular because they are collector’s items. The Steiff Company still stands today, and it offers handmade bears that were designed to be a collector’s item. Hot Holiday Toys – 2009 – Zhu Zhu Hamsters

The Zhu Zhu toys are the must have toys for 2009. Like the Cabbage Patch Dolls and the Transformers of the 1980s, the cute little hamsters quickly sold out and parents are scrambling to find them. They are so cute scurrying around that I wish I could have one.

Mr Squiggles is the bestselling hamster of the lot and he may be your first choice. He is a fast and furious little critter. Light brown in color, he perhaps resembles a real hamster the best of all five members of the brood. Mr Squiggles loves to scurry and scoot at full speed and when he bumps into something, he emits hysterical sounds.

The hamsters have their own town with houses, beds and blankets, ramps, garage, fun-house, skate board and a ball to play with. You will have gift ideas for some time.

Pipsqueak is yellow and is a little smaller and weighs less than Mr. Squiggles. The hamsters have two modes that you can adjust, loving Mode: pet them, love them, hear them chatter, and explore Mode: Let them scoot and scamper across the floor and up and down furniture.

Num Nums, who are sweet and shy, are gray and a little smaller than Mr. Squiggles. The most fun is in play mode. The wheels are fast and the grip is really strong. The hamsters run better on hard surfaces but they tackle and scoot on carpet. They eat triple A batteries, can pinch, can be broken with a moderate impact.

We had a much loved real hamster once and believe me they take a bit of work to care for. The cutest thing they can do is squeak sweetly while begging for food. Melinda, her/his name, caused huge trauma when it died. Chunk is white and although not realistic, that might be your favorite color. The wheels on all the little fellows might catch in the hair if your child has long hair or even if they put it on their head.

They are recommended for age 3 and above, and with all toys, you must use your own common sense when buying these and supervise your children at all times.

This Christmas parents are looking out for the hot trends in toys and gifts for children. This year there are many great toys that will out on the market. The interesting thing is that many new trends are going to be easier on parents’ wallets. That is because many retailers have been hurt in by the economic downturn and see the Holiday Shopping Season as the best time to recoup their losses. This makes this the perfect opportunity to get many of the items on your children’s wish list that you ordinarily may not be able to purchase. Here are some the trends that will be available this year.

A big trend to watch out is the miniaturization of popular toys and games. This is an effort for toy companies to still offer brand name toys but at reduced prices. Each of these will be well received by your children and help teach them important lesson about conservation and recycling.
