What Makes Stuffed Toys Popular

Stuffed toys came to existence in the early 1800′s. Those were the days wherein they were made at home and straw was used as a stuffing. Fast forward to this century and stuffed toys are still in existence. Of course, certain developments were made for the improvement of the toy. But it’s still around. They have the staying power that is the envy of even the most modern toys. Even at this age of computer gaming, they are still hot holiday toys.

So what makes plush toys popular? It would be easier to understand if we’re going to talk about the grandfather of the stuffed animal toys – the Teddy Bear. Teddy Bears came into existence in 1902. President Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt was out on a hunting trip with other hunters that already killed an animal. One of President Roosevelt’s aides captured a baby bear and tied it to a tree so that President Roosevelt can get a kill. But he refused to shoot it. A cartoon of the incident was circulated on November 16, 1902 and it served as inspiration for Morris Michtom and the Steiff Company out of Germany to make the Teddy Bears that we know today.

Being natural romantics, it was easily accepted by the public. Demands for the toy were so high. It was so high that it became a subject for books and songs. The books and songs also helped create awareness for the Teddy Bear. But aside from the President Roosevelt story, songs and books, it has its own selling point. It’s made to be cuddly and became a favorite comfort toy. Plush toys, especially patterned after a bear, are still loved up to this day. Earlier these toys were patterned closely after the animal that it’s portraying. But nowadays, they are made cuter by adjusting some features like making the eyes bigger and the nose smaller. The cuteness factor added to its appeal.

They are also very popular because they are collector’s items. The Steiff Company still stands today, and it offers handmade bears that were designed to be a collector’s item. But mainstream plush toys can also be collected. Kids usually sleep with them at night as an assurance that someone is with them while they sleep. That’s the reason why kids collect them. So there will be a lot of these toys to watch over them while they sleep.

They are especially popular during holidays. They are considered as hot holiday toy because everyone wants them. If you’re looking to give them as gifts, it’s easy because you have a lot of options. You can even personalize them. So why not take advantage of their popularity by making your own hot holiday toys of stuffed animals? With the right idea and the right manufacturer, you can easily make them. You can make them as gifts because it’s cheaper and more personalized. While you’re at it, you can easily be successful as a stuffed toys inventor due to its popularity.

Hot Holiday Toys – 2009 – Zhu Zhu Hamsters

The Zhu Zhu toys are the must have toys for 2009. Like the Cabbage Patch Dolls and the Transformers of the 1980s, the cute little hamsters quickly sold out and parents are scrambling to find them. They are so cute scurrying around that I wish I could have one.

Mr Squiggles is the bestselling hamster of the lot and he may be your first choice. He is a fast and furious little critter. Light brown in color, he perhaps resembles a real hamster the best of all five members of the brood. Mr Squiggles loves to scurry and scoot at full speed and when he bumps into something, he emits hysterical sounds.

The hamsters have their own town with houses, beds and blankets, ramps, garage, fun-house, skate board and a ball to play with. You will have gift ideas for some time.

Pipsqueak is yellow and is a little smaller and weighs less than Mr. Squiggles. The hamsters have two modes that you can adjust, loving Mode: pet them, love them, hear them chatter, and explore Mode: Let them scoot and scamper across the floor and up and down furniture.

Num Nums, who are sweet and shy, are gray and a little smaller than Mr. Squiggles. The most fun is in play mode. The wheels are fast and the grip is really strong. The hamsters run better on hard surfaces but they tackle and scoot on carpet. They eat triple A batteries, can pinch, can be broken with a moderate impact.

We had a much loved real hamster once and believe me they take a bit of work to care for. The cutest thing they can do is squeak sweetly while begging for food. Melinda, her/his name, caused huge trauma when it died. Chunk is white and although not realistic, that might be your favorite color. The wheels on all the little fellows might catch in the hair if your child has long hair or even if they put it on their head.

They are recommended for age 3 and above, and with all toys, you must use your own common sense when buying these and supervise your children at all times.
