There is no way that this bookcase’s original price was 2.56. It’s not even real wood; it’s that “pressed board” thing. Sometimes on amazon you really do find impossible-to-believe deals, but in this case, you get what you pay for. The item’s value is misrepresented.
It took me 4 1/2 hours to assemble it. I am a single woman who has assembled only a bench — which required only an allen wrench (provided!) — and a console table. I have no tools other than a four-way screwdriver. I think that it could be assembled in about 80 or 90 or 100 minutes by a man who has assembled furniture before and who has a decent tool collection. Assembly instructions, although in diagrams only, are fairly clear.
Now that it is assembled and in place, I will say that it looks nice enough. For a graduate student’s apartment. I have yet to unpack my boxes full of books and test the strength of the shelves, though. I think and I hope that they will prove sturdy enough.
In truth, I enjoyed spending the 4 1/2 hours putting this thing together, because I learned that I can do it! I can assemble furniture by myself.
Finally, there were no items missing. Everything that was supposed to be included was included. And again, I did it with nothing but a 4-way screwdriver.
I’ve yet to get a negative comment on this. I recently purchased a house and two of these for the small library of books I have (both are 95%+ full). I was impressed by the actual quality of this, as were other members of my family. They look a lot more expensive than they really are and are sturdier than they may need to be. Assembly is easy as well. Not sure I would necessarily use them as my “best” shelves, but they are good for if you want to make a library for your house and want to do it inexpensively.
