An architect is one of the many professionals in the community whose specialization is designing the best possible layout of homes and other infrastructures. By the phrase, ‘best possible’, it means exceptional physical appearance, functionality, safety and economic value.

An architect transforms a good building idea into feasible plans and images. This licensed professional in building design will be involved from the planning part, to the execution of the plan until the completion of the entire building project.

An architect possesses the necessary skills involved in design, engineering, management, supervision and communication so that a project will finish in conformity to the plan. Although there are people who just see architects as extra expense to add to the budget or obstacle in the quick completion of the construction tasks, the duties they perform are nevertheless indispensable in constructing houses and building structures that are creative, safe, functional and economical.

Finding the best architect who will create the best design for your home or any building project is essential. With the different styles employed by architects in their design, you need to select the architect whose approach matches your preference. Your search for the right architect must be done in a proper pace, not too fast that you will end up choosing an architect who does not meet with your requirements and not too slow that you will not be able to follow your time table.

The first thing to do for this architect search is to ask referrals from relatives, friends, or co-workers. Furthermore, you may also find a list of reputable architects from the realtors or builders’ offices in your locality. From this list, you can choose those whose previous projects are similar in design to the one you are envisioning. Should your home building project involve restoration tasks, you may check from offices of the historical society in your area so you will find an architect with appropriate specialization.

Online directories will also facilitate in your search. These online resources have features that you can use in searching for architects based on location or specialty. After coming up with a list of your selected architects, you may start calling them and ask if they would be interested in working for you. While you are at it, inquire if they would be requiring for a payment during the interview. If there is a fee and you don’t wish to pay an extra amount, then choose another one who would charge nothing during the initial meeting. From this phone conversation, you may request for the architect‘s portfolio which could either be in forms of pamphlets, brochures or the more modern online portfolio.

Next step is to meet with your prospective architect. During this meeting, confirm if the architect indeed can create for you a design which you really prefer. Ask about the time it will take for the task to be finished. Also during this meeting, you should already discuss with the architect about the costs and fees that needs to be paid and settled for your construction project. Gather some contact information of the architect‘s previous clients for your reference. Most importantly, verify the license and certification of your chosen architect.

Top Five Reasons to Hire an Architect For Your Home Remodel

Image : http://www.flickr.com

There are times one would like to make some alteration in the design of your home or do some remodeling of some part of the home such as the kitchen or the bathroom. However, what never seems to come quickly to mind is that we may require an architect for the job. For many people the design services of an architect may only be relevant in the construction of major buildings and not for simple remodeling jobs. However, that need not be the case. An architect‘s insight and design ideas may help you save a lot of money in the short and long-term. It is a prudent idea to hire an architect for the following five reasons.

Firstly, the architect has the skill and ability to produce an architectural drawing of the project you want based on your needs and desires. He or she has ability to conceptualize your abstract ideas and transform them into a design that will not compromise the integrity of your existing house. The architect is able to develop a vision of the house so that you can be able to see and understand how the house will look like when complete.

However, prior to this, you must sit down with the architect and discuss the features, dimensions and functionality of the remodeling job. The architect then develops a set of preliminary drawings. You and the architect discuss the preliminary drawings. The architect then produces another set of drawings to incorporate your last discussions. Each subsequent drawing is more detailed than the previous one.

Secondly, you also require the architect to handle the documentation. The architect‘s job is to design the building according to established building codes. The architect is able to do this because of extensive knowledge on building materials and construction techniques. The architect also prepares the necessary paperwork required to obtain the relevant building permit so that construction may commence.

Thirdly, the architect being the person most conversant with the designs is able to meet with the other construction professionals and discuss the design of the project. The architect explains the design to the others so that each person is able to understand the work to be carried out. In addition, the plans are a reference point when mistakes are committed. Through the plans, a contractor is able to see the original intent of the plans. The architect is able to recommend remedial action that will not adversely affect your needs or your design.

Fourthly, the architect may also oversee the remodeling project. Under this arrangement, the architect will hire the other construction professionals and supervise the work to its logical conclusion. Alternatively, the architect may come to the site occasionally to see how the remodeling job is progressing and to answer any queries that may arise.

Finally, the architect is able to develop designs that will complement rather than destroy the environment. Use of recycled materials that are non-toxic will help to preserve the environment for a long time to come.

Convert Your Ideas Into Actual Homes With Architectural Services!

Everyone wants to own a house that looks good. They want to possess that place which looks good throughout. The look that they desire out of their place, does not end just within the interiors. Even, the exteriors of the house are carefully planned and designed according to their wishes.

Transforming the ideas into actual designs

Any individual would have an idea as to how their homes/office should look like. Once a plot is chosen to build, the first basic thing that is done is to create a design of what is to be built. For the designing to work out according to the owners taste, it is required to collect data from the person who is going to live in the house. The most basic ideas of the house owner are transformed into a pictorial representation. The building of the house does not happen immediately after the design is created. The pictorial form is enhanced further and further after a lot of discussions. Once, the person is completely satisfied with the design that is been provided by the architect, the building work begins. Here, the ideas are transformed completely into a drawing form, which represents all the minute details that is to be brought into the home.

Transforming the designs into actual homes

A design should help in giving the builder/architect as to how to go about with the building process. The design is usually so detailed that any builder should be able to easily comprehend and implement the same in what he builds. The designs that are created follow a common standard and hence any good architect could easily process it. The details in the design usually contain the room sizing, the wiring lines, the pipe structures connecting to the water drains and many other minute details required for structuring the house. It might look very simple, but the overall time taken to bring the design into actual structures takes months of time.

The basic ideas that a person aspires to obtain in their homes/offices are easily transformed into reality, with the help of architecture service provided by Architectural bay. The various architectural design services provided by Architectural Bay are interior designing, architectural rendering, house design planning, 3D exterior designing and office space planning. A quick look at the site should assist in knowing the various services that could be attained for designing your homes.

Property Development – Get an Architect on Board

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Why try to struggle with making plans yourself when it comes to homes and property? There are people out there already who are fully qualified at this thing called architecture. These architects really know what they are doing funnily enough. Let’s face it how many of us are undiscovered Christopher Wrens, all we do is get in a mess with our plans and end up literally back at the drawing board.

Any ideas you may have about extending a property in some way or converting the loft space should be handed over to a qualified architect who can help you realize your plans in a professional way. I am not very confident about my technical drawing skills and particularly my measuring, so I never attempt them. There is no point in risking a delay with the planning office by sending in incorrectly filled and inaccurate forms and sketches. And if you have dealt with planning offices then you know you want to make it as simple as possible for them.

Now, it will be a budgetary issue whether you go ahead with employing yet another person to help with your development. Particularly if it’s your first property and expenses are pushed to the limit but as you become more competent and have bigger and more properties you will find that delegating out these responsibilities just make good business sense. At the end of the day how much is your time worth? If you have hours available to tinker with your plans then so be it but isn’t there something else you could be doing like finding another property to develop?

Hiring an Architect That’s Right For You

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Building a new house gives you a way to make your home a reflection of your family’s personality. If you pick the wrong architect, however, you could end up with a house that the architect loves but you hate. Some architects are primarily focused on seeing their visions come to life. They put their artistic designs first, and they place the customers’ needs and desires second. To avoid headaches throughout the design process, you need to choose an architect who is willing to work with you, and change designs to suit your needs and wants.

The architect you choose should be familiar with the house style you like. Although a skilled architect can readily switch between different house and building styles, you should try to pick an architect who enjoys designing the type of house that you want. For example, if you choose an architect who only wants to design Tudor style homes, you might have a hard time getting them to appreciate your modernist sensibilities. If you want a modern house, pick an architect who specializes in designing modern houses. The architect will be more experienced in that type of design, which can be beneficial during the building process. Additionally, you will not have a conflict from the start. Ideally, the architect and future homeowner should be able to work together. The architect should be able to suggest plans, but allow you the final say.

A well-known architect is not necessarily a good one to work with. Frank Lloyd Wright designed some iconic homes, but as often as not, the home owners were displeased with the results. Wright often refused to modify his designs, even slightly. If you use a well-known architect, you might impress your friends, but if you and your family are not impressed with the results, you have chosen the wrong architect. Remember, you are going to be living in your new home for years.

Another way to make sure you find an architect who is willing to work with you is to read reviews online. See what former clients have to say about the way the architect handles design revision requests. If you have friends or family that have recently built their own house, ask them about their architects. They might have someone that they would highly recommend, and they might just tell you what architect to avoid at all costs.

Before you make your final decision, meet with your architect in person. Ask the architect directly if they are willing to allow you to make significant input during the design process. Meeting with an architect in person is the best way to see how they will treat you as a client. If the architect dismisses your ideas or does not act professionally, you should probably try to find a different architect.

If you follow these steps, you should be able to find a great architect. Soon, you will be moving into a new home that your family loves. Your happiness should be the ultimate goal of the architect you choose.

IT Career Path – Technical Architect

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Options in the IT working world are vast and almost too many for individuals looking to choose a single career path to walk down. But of all the avenues out there that are open and ready to take, the path of a Technical Architect is one with a most promising and reliable trail, one leading to IT success as well as IT progress. The responsibilities of the job itself are weighted heavily and what technical architects actually do is critically essential for technological company sectors to operate and run well.

The Technical Architect and What They Do

Various titles for the Technical Architects can include the following: Software Engineer, Computer Applications Engineer, Computer Systems Engineer, Systems Engineer and Data Network Designer. As far as what technical architects do it is substantial in nature. Technical architects are responsible for the designing, developing, evaluating and overall integrating of anything including business applications, information warehouses, technical environments, operating systems, general databases and telecommunication networking.

Most employment opportunities for technical architects can be found within large organizations, both in private and public spheres. There are other options as well, particularly ones with on a contracted basis. Numerous opportunities to work as a technical architect employee on a contracted foundation are available through consulting and/or systems integration firms.

How Technical Architects’ Jobs Are Conducted

The ways in which technical architects will conduct their jobs varies based on the project at hand. Initially, technical architects will identify and define the particular technologies required to support an organization’s automation environment. The aim and purpose here is to ensure organization-wide connectivity, standardization, information to data integration and implementing all integrated applications.

Plans are set up in a high-level document format containing all technical and procedural recommendations that must be followed to ensure optimal connectivity within an organization. The goal here is to construct an organization to connect with everyone as to support shared information, input/output devices and various shared resources such as computers, networks as well as programming and database software.

Technical architects also play a large role in influencing IT strategies within an organization. Through providing and assisting in the implementation processes of a mapped out high-level master plan, technical architects will arrange a multitude of things. Through such a high-level master plan technical architects will lay out integrations of existing as well as future systems, overall standards to be followed, security measures and a run-through of just exactly how the constructed technical environment will be supported, upgraded and later evaluated.

Continuing Challenges, Specifically Of IT Career Betterment

Being a technical architect calls for constant updating and continued betterment. This is simply so because the IT field is never still, it is always evolving and seems to continually improve. As such, the individuals working in the IT realm are subject to expanding in tandem with these changes. Such a requirement applies for technical architects too as they must keep up to date with the latest technological offerings and alterations. But more importantly, technical architects must be willing to better themselves with current, more prevalent and resume impressive IT certifications.

And to get ahead in the IT world one will need IT Certification, that much is certain. Why not consider Comp TIA Certification or A + Certification to get in front of the competition?

Should I Hire an it Architect Career Coach?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

There are lots of reasons why a junior or new enterprise architect should hire a mentor/coach. There are a number of skills that can only be really developed under the focused leadership of someone who has “been through the mill”.

For instance do you understand the decisions and constraints in the wider scheme of things when you analyze the whole of the solution? This skill includes the ability to look at problems in an abstract way. This is called systems thinking.

Few understand the organizational politics of the organization you are working in. Do you currently understand how those under-currents influence you and the outcomes you are trying to produce?

Can you clearly communicate without stepping on too many toes and still get your point across? You possibly need improvement in this area – most people do. Do you understand that people aspects and dynamics in human factors which influence the business? It’s called human relations and includes being pragmatic as well as understanding team plus personal dynamics.

Have you had any training in strategic thinking and understanding how decisions are made on the constraints and alignments that affect the overall business of the company? Not to mention leadership which basically means how to influence others to accomplish tasks and follow your guidance.

If you are lacking in these skill areas then a good enterprise architecture mentor/coach can help you develop the skill sets needed so that you can effectively use these “soft skills”. And don’t dismiss these soft skills as being secondary to your role as an IT architect. After all if you don’t understand the business, the people who work in it, and the people who they work for (that is the customers) then you really have no way of designing a useful and profit driven IT architecture.

One of the reasons why you should hire a coach is so that you can take training and skills development in the “soft skills” areas at the right time in your journey from beginner to accomplished IT architect. A good enterprise architecture mentor/coach understands the importance of these skills and will enable you to plan (and give feedback on) your skill development as your career progresses.

Soft skill development alone is probably one of the biggest reasons to hire a coach, because IT people are generally well known for their non-people skills. An effective enterprise architect is also a very strong influencer right from board level to the fellow who is cutting code.

IT architect coaching is the fastest way for you, as an IT professional, to become an excellent people influencer.

Five Key Reasons Why Steel Windows Are the Architect’s Choice

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Steel Windows are the architect‘s choice for just about every kind of building. These windows are incredibly versatile, in that they can evoke both a modern and bold look, or conversely give the feel of classic style. In this article, we will discuss the five key benefits of choosing windows made of steel for your building — whether it be a home, commercial structure, hospital, school, or public building. These benefits are narrow sightlines, strength, versatility, lifecycle, and fire rating. When you are finished reading, you will have all the information you need in order to decide if these windows are the solution for your building.

The first reason is their narrow sightlines. When people think of steel windows, the quality most often associated with them is their narrow sightlines. As a consequence, over centuries, this attribute has been incorporated into just about every kind of building. Architects have taken advantage of this great quality inherent to steel windows and used their narrow sightlines to construct different architectural styles. The material’s massive and incredible strength allows for this minimalism in regards to sightlines. Other materials, such as aluminum, vinyl, or wood simply do not have the integrity to allow for maintaining their structure while having narrow sightlines. This gives steel windows a unique and distinctive appearance.

The second major benefit is their strength. Head to head, aluminum is three times weaker than steel. The advantage offered by steel’s inherent strength also allows it to hold glass lights of immense size and offer astonishing openings, even as the material maintains narrow sightlines. This also allows for the use of ventilators, which in a steel window do not rack with age or distort.

The third reason for choosing steel as your material for windows is its versatility. Whether the building has a Gothic theme, is a more traditional structure, or highly modern, steel windows complement the look of the building’s exterior and interior. Municipal buildings, churches, universities, private homes, commercial buildings, manufacturing facilities, transit terminals, hospitals and retail establishments have all benefited from using these type of windows.

The fourth benefit is their lifecycle. Far above and beyond other construction materials, steel windows offer unsurpassed durability. For example, in Europe, the original windows are still maintaining themselves in silent elegance even in buildings that are more than a century old.

In the United States, there are many examples of steel windows which after three generations still remain quite functional. In fact, when these windows are replaced, it is usually due to surface issues such as glazing, ventilator technology, or finishing, not the general functionality of the window. In essence, steel windows effectively stand the test of time with far more grace and elegance than other materials.

The fifth reason is their excellent fire rating. Manufacturers of steel windows offer a variety of designs which are fire rated, this fire rating confirmed by independent laboratory fire labels. This fire rating is not limited to fixed lites. A number of operable designs are able to be fabricated, provided specifications are constructed in consultation with individual manufacturers.

If you are looking for excellent window for any number of structures, consider steel windows. Architects give these windows the seal of approval for their narrow sightlines, strength, versatility, lifecycle, and fire rating. These windows complement any number of styles, and allow for a unique look for any building.
