In life, men measure success by obtaining stuff. When I was a kid, it was the silver blue bicycle placed in the display corner in the store. When pimples and raging hormones hit, it was the cheerleaders or simply any girls an adolescent could get his hands on. In college, gadgets started to become a degree of status. Apparently, the first person who has the highest memory notebook or the smallest ipod was the coolest among all. However, all of this became a sideline once men hit the working world. Once the cash starts rolling into our bank accounts, success was thrown into the world of cars and all the girls would go for those with 2 door sports car rather than a station wagon.
By the time I turned 28, I bought a car. Then, cupid shoot me with his arrow and I became a couple. My blessings did not stop there for not long after, I also made one of the most important purchases of my life, my house. This is all very convention for me since I have been waiting to find myself a house so that I get much more privacy a grown man deserve and it was heavenly to be able to stuff the house with my own choice of furniture. However, buying the house with a girlfriend did make it easy than it would have been if I was buying as a single guy.
All along I had a mental picture of an outdoor housewarming party. It just gives me a great happiness to be able to supply my guests with fresh air and sunshine. I figured everyone will be content with that. Outdoor parties are great in a sense that it keeps the inner part of my house clean. Also the most important thing is the crowd would not be mingling in my bedroom- not that they are invited there in the first place.
After telling Cindy my idea, she crossed her brow and reminded me that some people may not appreciate my plan. Some would be afraid of sunburn while unpredictable weather forecasts may jeopardize my plans. In the end, we agreed to add a patio umbrella to our shopping lists.
After shopping for party food, we went to the household department and were greeted by a huge ten foot hot pink umbrella. My girlfriend immediately fell for the umbrella and was trying to persuade me to buy it because it was a great match to her pale pink shoe rack. I can see how having that gigantic hot pink umbrella can kill my reputation in an instant.
Bert, the stores expert on umbrella was helpful enough to give us a tour through the umbrella whilst providing us with the detailed explanation on each of the umbrella. We were told that most of the umbrella canvas was made from SUNBRELLA material and this material was actually one of the best in the market and quite well known the long life span of its color and pattern. So no matter how long the umbrella gets rain and sun exposure, you can be sure that the color and pattern stays the way you bought it for a long time to come. After that, we were taken to the more exclusive part of the store which houses umbrellas that are fitted with cool tech such as fitted lighting and speaker. I really loved the one fitted with speaker but it was my girl’s time to rationalize with me. Do I really need something to compete with the home theater?
Deciding on which umbrella to purchase was quite a tough one for us. After careful thought, we decided to go for the bright red umbrella. It is about nine foot wide but with no sound system attached or lighting. The material is of course SUNBRELLA. I knew for a fact that I have made the right decision. Bright red is more ideal for my garden than hot pink. At least I can have the guts to tell my friends that if they cant find my house then look for a bright red patio umbrella.
