Powermonkey eXplorer – portable charger

Powermonkey eXplorer – portable charger Lots of adapters, none fit – Deborah –
All I can think of is because this product is manufactured by a UK company none of the adapters fit phones, cameras, etc. E-mailed the company and they never responded. I have done Google searches to no avail. Bottom line: It is a good idea, but if none of the adapters fit all you can use it for is a paperweight.
StuffJunction: pm-ExP Ultra compact, tough and powerful, the powermonkey-eXplorer is water resistant, made with a rubberized casing so it can take whatever life throws at it, yet it remains the lightest, most versatile charger available today.

Featuring an LCD screen that displays battery capacity and the level of charge, the powermonkey-eXplorer also has short-circuit protection, over-charging protection and over-discharging protection. The included mains charger has interchangeable heads for UK, Europe, US and Australia – so you can use in over 150 countries around the world!

The Solar Slave draws power directly from the sun – giving you free power wherever you are. Make sure your powermonkey-eXplorer’s got full power at all times by charging it with the handy solar slave, which can be attached to your pack, hung from a window, left in a car or taken anywhere the sun shines!

You can even use the solar slave to recharge your device directly – so you have back up power at all times.

Solar Gorilla Laptop Charger

Solar Gorilla Laptop Charger A total DECEPTION, be careful – sympathy –
I bought the product a couple of months ago when the weather in UK was cool. As I received the product. I checked it with my mobile phone, it worked well. When I attached it to my toshiba satellite pro A120 laptop while running on battery, I was suprized that the laptop power option was showing now running on AC, however, after a few minutes, I found my laptop battery charge was deminishing. I waited for the summer to come and see how it works in full sunshine to exploit its full capacity. A total disappointment. As I put it in direct sunlight and plugged into my laptop, at first it was charging my laptop but after a few minutes when it was warmed up in the sun for a while,it caused my laptop to auto shutdown. And this happened consistantly each time causing my laptop to shutdown as and when I plugged it into my latop after being put for a while in direct sun. It goes wrong when it is put in direct sunlight due to heating of its panels. If you want to use it in winter it might work but it is definitely not suitable for summer months (even not for a UK summer which comparatively cool). But the real problem is that you dont get good sunlight in winter. It is in summer when the sun light is at its best. I dont know whether it becomes short-circuited or some other abnormality occurs when it is put in strong sunlight for a while. Each time I had to remove my laptop battery to turn it on after it was shutdown by the solargorilla. Unfotunately, no warranty is offered with this product, so I cant return it. It is just a waste of money. I have contacted powertraveller about this. They suggested to use some shield with it to protect it from hot sun. Can you believe it? A product that is made to harvest light energy to make electricity needs to be protected from strong sunshine. It is just rediculous.
Solar Gorilla: The Solar Gorilla will make you feel like a gorilla when you are getting power for your laptop in the sun for free. Imagine, you are at your nearest coffee shop and there are no more plugs, just have the gorilla handy and use it instead!

Powermonkey PowerTraveller Portable Charger (Grey)

Powermonkey PowerTraveller Portable Charger (Grey) Limited devices it works with – C. Rowe – San Francisco, CA
It’s a great idea and I was excited to get it for traveling but it sucks. It DOES NOT work with iPhones, Olympus cameras or photo backup drives like the Colorspace. I even tried the USB adapter for all of those mentioned and it did nothing. It has no on/off indicator so I had to figure out which setting was On/Off. So sure, it’s nice but not if it doesn’t work for 4 out of your 5 devices. Bummer.
PowerMonkey: PM-ClassicBlister Blister Pack – Never run out of power again with this innovative emergency charger – for use with mobile phones, iPods, PSPs, digital cameras and more! A range of add on adaptors to fit different electronic devices. iGo Everywhere Power 3500 Charger

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The iGo Everywhere Power 3500 Charger has been available for a while now, but it still provides a useful service for the charging of small handheld devices. Although this is not a standalone battery backup (it requires mains power or equivalent for function) it does solve the problem of carrying a multitude of power cables for each and every handheld device.

The iGo Everywhere Power 3500 Charger is supplied with the iGo Everywhere Power adapter (smooth metallic blue box about the size of a pack of cards), iGo DualPower adapter (for connecting devices), Electronic Device Input Cord (for connecting devices), Standard Wall Outlet AC Power Cord, Auto/Air EmPower DC Power Cord and a zippered carrying pouch (in black).

From either the main adapter, car cigarette lighter adapter or air adapter (for aeroplanes that utilise this power interface) the iGo Everywhere Power 3500 Charger can charge up to two devices (sharing a maximum of 15W). In order to interface with every different type of mobile device, PDA, mp3 player etc. iGo provide a series of iTips (interchangeable between iGo products) that are compatible with each different type of device. These have to be purchased separately to the main device.

iGo Everywhere Power 3Connection is simple to any device (providing the correct iTip has been bought), if one device is to be charged, the electronic device input cord is used, and if two devices are used, the iGo DualPower adapter is required. We found that during charging the main unit tended to heat up slightly. There is a blue LED that lights when the main unit has power, however, there is no indication on the unit to let you know when devices are fully charged.

In summary, the iGo Everywhere Power 3500 Charger is a viable alternative to carrying handfuls of seperate peripheral chargers for each and every device you use on a day to day basis. If you want backup power on the move, when a power supply isn’t available it is worth considering a power backup device such as the Powertraveller Powermonkey eXplorer, iGo powerXtender battery operated charger or Freedom Mobile Power Portable Charger (MiniUSB).

The iGo Everywhere Power 3500 Charger is available from ExpansysUK.
