American Football vs European Football

American football is usually confused with European football. The difference between the two is greatly, but the same use of title can confuse others. The difference between American and European football is simple by definition. Football is used mostly with the hands to control the ball, and the European football is what most people call Soccer. In soccer, you kick the ball and they not allowed using their hands at all. By definition, football is when 11 players on a rectangular field 100 yards long. Teams try to steal/keep possession of the ball and move across the field to the other team’s goal line by running a series of plays. European football or soccer is a game played with a round ball (not diamond shaped like American football).

Again, two teams of eleven players user their body to control the ball to pass the opponent’s goal line. Soccer is played dominantly with the feet, but can be controlled by other parts of the body like knees, chest, and head. They can use any part of their body by their arms and hands. If they do use the hands, a foul is called the other team gets control of the situation. They only people who are allowed to use their hands are the goalkeepers.

Many soccer games are played on football fields. They are set up the same way except instead of having a huge goal post, they use two goal nets (much like hockey). The games are in quarters that are times. There are four quarters per game and a half time. Usually there are only a minute or two pauses between quarters and the half time is much longer. Soccer games usually do not take as much time as soccer, because there are fewer rules to soccer.

Football is a complicated sport that has flags and penalties for, what seems everything. In soccer, penalties are called but mostly for being offsides or out of bounds. Sportsmanship is a problem in both sports. The two sports are very competitive and can be frustrating to the players. Even though you aren’t allowed to tackle a player purposely in soccer, some players do tend to collide and when they do, they hit hard.

Soccer and football are much alike in some aspects, but are completely different in others. Either way you look at it, the two sports are just as aggressive and competitive and can be very enjoyable to watch and play.

Breast Cancer: The Complete Guide: Fifth Edition

Breast Cancer: The Complete Guide: Fifth Edition : Oncologist Hirshaut and surgeon Pressman form a specialized team of renowned authority on the treatment of breast cancer. Their book–a winner of The American Medical Writers Association’s Rose Kushner Award–serves as “an additional expert by your side,” providing a backstage look at the essence of breast cancer. Written for women diagnosed with breast cancer or concerned about the possibility of developing it, the guide is separated into four informative yet nonthreatening sections: “From Suspicion to Diagnosis,” “Treatment,” “After the Treatment,” and “Life After Cancer.”

The authors clarify terminology and treatment jargon that’s often lost on the layperson. For instance, fibroadenomas are described as “an orderly growth of cells, confined to the breast, that results in benign, movable, and rounded lumps.” The TNM system of staging is clarified as this: “the conditions Tumor, lymph Nodes and Metastasis are taken into account to determine the stage at which the cancer has been found; staging is a vital tool in measuring risk and choosing treatment.”

Descriptions and illustrations help explain presurgical procedures, again providing an insider’s knowledge into what to expect beyond what is usually provided by a regular physician. Additionally, in a chapter dedicated solely to prevention, the doctors explore factors that may be related to the disease’s onset such as heredity, race, diet, vitamins and minerals, alcohol, caffeine, smoking, radiation exposure and other environmental causes, as well as hormones, birth control pills, and hormone replacement therapy.

The guide concludes with a NABCO (National Alliance of Breast Cancer Organizations) resource list including numerous offices and phone numbers in each state. Want to know more about breast cancer diagnosis and treatment? This guide may very well serve as the next best thing to an on-call physician, providing clear explanations to questions–whether general or specific–via a detailed index and 17 well-organized chapters. –Cate Bick

Respisense BUZZ Infant Breathing Movement Baby Monitor

it’s for Mommy and Daddy’s piece of mind – Ella’s Mumma – Milwaukee, WI
Okay, I know that 0 seems like a lot of money for a little piece of plastic but when we decided to move our 3 month old daughter into her own room I could not sleep at night for fear that she would stop breathing as we slept. Even though we have taken all the necessary precautions to prevent against SIDS, our daughter will only sleep on her stomach. This little monitor is no ironclad guarantee that nothing will ever happen to your baby, but in our experience, it works well enough that I am able to relax when she’s napping or sleeping. We have had a few false alarms when she has wiggled it off (we attach it to her diaper in the back) but to me that proves it’s working and I absolutely can hear it as it grows increasingly louder. There are also various lights on it that indicate different things and we can see them blinking even through our baby’s clothes. Ours came with very understandable instructions in English so I am not sure why some of the other reviews have commented otherwise. Bottom line? If you need a little reassurance it is completely worth the money. If you feel more confident then you could skip it. This particular mommy sleeps a lot better at night knowing it’s there.

The American Sycamore

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Platanus occidentalis is commonly known as the American sycamore, and is also referred to as the Occidental plane, American plane and Buttonwood. This is familiar and very common species that first originated from North America. It is generally called a sycamore wherever it is widespread, and is a name that is also used for many other trees in other areas of the world.

Appearance

An American Sycamore tree is recognized most easily by the mottled, exfoliating bark it has. While all barks have to yield to give way to a growing trunk, the sycamore is possibly the tree that exhibits the exfoliation process more so than all other trees.

The bark of the trunk and its larger limbs tend to flake off in large, irregular masses, giving the surface a mottled look. The bark can be of many colours due to this, from grey to brown to greenish white. The smaller limbs can look whitewashed for the same reasons.

The leaves of these trees emerge from the bud and are pale green in colour. When fully grown they become a bright yellow colour on top and a paler yellow underneath. They become a brown colour in autumn and wither just before falling away.

Growth

A sycamore tree can grow to quite massive proportions. It generally reaches heights of thirty to forty meters and a diameter of 2 meters, if it is grown in deep soils. Some of the largest of these trees have measured in at fifty one meters tall and nearly four meters in diameter. There have even been those over five meters in diameter in the past.

American sycamore trees tend to be divided nearer to the ground into many secondary trunks that are free fro branches. The limbs spread out at the top to make an irregular, open crown. The roots are fibrous and the trunks of the larger sycamore trees tend to be hollow.

Flowers and fruits

The flowers of this tree appear in May along with the leaves. They are monoecious and borne in dense clusters. The flowers have tree to six petals that are very tiny and scale-like. They are slightly held together at the base. The filament is short and has elongated anthers. The pistil has a superior ovary that is one celled and is surrounded at the base by long, pale hairs. It has one or two ovules.

The fruits of these trees are in form of brown heads that have akenes inside them. They are generally solitary fruits and are only very rarely clustered. They hang from slender stems that are three to six inches in length. These fruits can survive through the winter.

Uses

The sycamore tree is very useful for its wood. The wood from this tree is mainly used in producing furniture parts and for the interior finish of houses. It is also used for flooring, pulpwood, particleboard, fibreboard, millwork, and speciality products such as butcher blocks. It is a light brown colour that is slightly tinged with red. It is a heavy wood that is difficult to split.
