Love – The Limits of Love

Filed under: Russ Tim — Tags: — remxperez @ 3:51 am

(Matthew 25:32 KJV) And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:

True love requires limits. Without limits love cannot be the freedom that God intended. It becomes license to do whatever the heart of man desires. The heart of man is an evil deceitful thing that always defaults to sin when left to itself.

Just as children must be given loving limits so we adults require loving limits as well. We establish these limits out of our love and hope to see our children grow into healthy and productive adult lifestyles. There are some children who refuse to respond properly to the loving limits we set and those children must be disciplined in the hope that they will learn not to do wrong.

Even then some children refuse to respond to loving correction. In the hope of salvaging some good from an impossibly bad situation parents must opt to help the other children through making the rebellious child an example.

God has made it clear in his word that there will be judgment for each of us and that we will be dealt with accordingly. Life then can be considered to be a sort of spiritual educational facility that is designed to prepare us for eternal living in God’s presence. Those of us who graduate into heaven have learned the basic material to equip us. Those who do not learn will be relegated to an eternal death.

Christians may disagree on the details of judgment and punishment, the existence of hell and eternal punishment. There can be no doubt, however, that a judgment and punishment of some type takes place. This means that love is not limitless in its application.

Love is the most precious gift that God has and it has been freely given to us. If we choose to trample on that intimate offering there is nothing else that can be given to replace it. Once you have received and rejected the best and the finest you are lost. God is love. To reject his love is to reject him. Can we expect to reject God and not be rejected by God? We may but it is an unrealistic expectation.

I think we can safely say that God has the purest love in the universe. Certainly no human can hope to attain his capacity for love or to match his quality of love. God begins with the concept that we are all lovable.

It is only our unloving actions that earn us the right to be rejected. Make no mistake. God is loving, patient, tolerant, and long suffering. He loves each of us so much that he is willing to reach out to us again and again. God will allow us to reject him though.

(Matthew 25:41 KJV) Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

NFL 2006: New England Patriots

The dynasty of the New England Patriots ended last season in the NFL playoffs when Denver posted a 27-13 win at Mile High. That loss ended a run that may not be duplicated again in the free agency era.

The boys from Beantown captured three Super Bowl championships in four years and broke the Miami Dolphins consecutive game win streak in the process. Who would have thought it could happen in this day and age?

Last season, injuries, illness and a defense that surrendered 338 points left the Patriots at 10-6, still good enough for the AFC East crown, but not good enough for home field advantage. With a solid draft and some healthy veterans returning – Bill Belichick and the boys look to climb back to their old ways and become Super Bowl contenders.

Offense: It starts and ends with Tom Brady. We all know the story by now. Sixth round pick does good and leads team to three world titles. In 2005, Brady proved he’s not only a good leader but a damn good quarterback as well. The Michigan grad led the NFL in yards passing (4,110), while completing 63 percent of his passes to go along with 26 touchdown.

Brady is the main cog of the Belichick engine. He understands the system, he’s like a coach on the field – dissecting the defense and knowing what every person is supposed to do on his team and the opponents. The Patriots better pray he doesn’t get hurt or the season is over. Matt Cassel and Cody Bramlett are the backups. Oh my God!

Corey Dillon had an injury-prone 2005 season. He failed to reach 1,000 yards (733), but he did find the end zone (12 TDs. He’s back healthy and with some competition so that should fire him up. New England drafted Lawrence Maroney out of Minnesota to be the future star of the franchise. Dillon is no spring chicken and Maroney runs with force and power – just like the old Cory Dillon. Don’t be surprised if Maroney becomes the featured back this season. Kevin Faulk returns as the third down back.

The Patriots are fortunate to have two solid fullbacks on the roster in starter Patrick Pass and backup Heath Evans. Both are experienced veterans who can block, run and catch passes effectively.

New England lost the services of David Givens, but responded by signing Reche Caldwell from San Diego and drafting Florida standout Chad Jackson in the second round of the draft. Deion Branch (78-998-5) returns as Brady’s main target, but he’s been a distraction, threatening to holdout of training camp unless his contract is redone. Ageless wonder Troy Brown (39-466-2) returns to add depth and experience.

The tight end position is a strength for the Patriots and it only got stronger with the drafting of Garrett Mills from Tulsa. Mills is an excellent receiver and solid blocker who was a fullback in college. He has excellent potential as an H-Back. Ben Watson (29-441-6) and Daniel Graham (16-225-3) are a solid 1-2 punch.

The line is a stable group with Tom Ashworth the only departed member. Dan Koppen returns at center with Stephen Neal and NFL 2005 All-Rookie Logan Mankins at guard; with Matt Light and Brandon Gorin holding down the left and right tackle slots. Russ Hochstein, Nick Kaczur and rookie road grader Ryan O’Callaghan provide depth.

Defense: The defense faltered a little in 2005, but that was do more to injuries than lack of ability. Eric Mangini is gone and new coordinator Dean Pees hopes to bring the defense back to its Super Bowl level of the past.

The defensive line returns intact with Ty Warren and Richard Seymour at defensive end and Vince Wilfork at the nose. Jarvis Green and Marquise Hill provide backup at the end slots. For some unknown reason, Belichick decided to trade with New Orleans to get career underachiever Johnathan Sullivan. He didn’t disappoint by getting arrested recently, which didn’t set to well with Patriot brass.

The linebacking corps suffered a blow when Willie McGinest was let go for cap reasons. Big mistake! McGinest is a hard worker who hustles on every play. He’s also a leader in the locker room who will be missed. Still, all is not lost. Tedy Bruschi returns 100 percent and along with Mike Vrabel (108 tackles, 4.5 sacks), make a scary good inside tandem. Roosevelt Colvin (seven sacks) returns on the outside with Tully Banta-Cain taking over for McGinest. Monty Beisel, free agent pickup Barry Gardner and Don Davis provide depth.

The secondary was downright dismal at times last season. The unit managed only 10 interceptions in 2005, one of the worst outputs in the league and needs to improve. The good news is strong safety Rodney Harrison returns healthy after an injury plagued season. He’s starting to show his age, but he’s still one of the best SS to ever play the game. Eugene Wilson occupies the free safety position, while Tebucky Jones and Artrell Hawkins are capable backups.

Starting corners Asante Samuel and Ellis Hobbs led the team with three picks each, but will be pressed by Chad Scott and free agent Eric Warfield, long time starter out in Kansas City.

Special Teams: The biggest off season news for New England was with its special teams. Super Bowl hero Adam Vinatieri and returners Bethel Johnson and Tim Dwight weren’t retained. Bad news for Patriots fans. The Vinatieri decision is a complete mystery to me. How can you get rid of possibly the best clutch kicker in NFL history and think that Martin Gramatica is an upgrade? Unbelievable!

Josh Miller (45.1) returns as punter. Hobbs will replace Johnson as kick returner and Brown will go back to returning punts. Rookie Stephen Gostkwoski was brought in to challenge Gramatica.

Outlook: There have been big losses in New England (McGinest, Givens, Vinatieri) but the players love Belichick’s system and respond well to it. He’s exceptionally good at evaluating talent and how it fits that system. The Patriots have declined since their Super Bowl run, but with Brady and a solid, experienced group, New England should hold off Miami and win another East title.

Prediction: The Patriots keep back an up-and-coming Dolphin squad to win another division crown. They’ll lose a game or two without Vinatieri and finish 10-6 or 11-5.

Bible – The Bible Challenge

Filed under: Russ Tim — Tags: — remxperez @ 1:48 pm

(Acts 17:10-11 KJV) And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. {11} These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

The word of God is always controversial. It can be no other way for if it be the actual word of God it cannot be ignored. If it be the word of man it cannot be revered. It is the heart of the individual that judges the origin of the word and gives it appropriate resident in their lives.

Some have read the bible and claim it is filled with error or it doesn’t make sense. They read the book but they are lacking one vital ingredient. The things of God are spiritually understood. Anyone reading a spiritual book without the aid of the Spirit will obviously walk away without a true understanding of what they have read. It would be like trying to read the literature of any culture without having someone from that culture to explain things.

It is a circle. One cannot understand the word of God without God to explain it and one cannot have God to explain it unless one is a Christian therefore only Christians understand the word of God. That, of course, is a pat answer but it is an accurate answer. How then is one who is unsaved to gain an understanding of the word to become a Christian? Obviously from a Christian or from a miraculous revelation directly from God.

Oddly enough even Christians tend not to read or study their bible. Here we are filled with the Spirit of God, given access directly to God’s throne and handed his word…which collects dust on our library shelf. Shame on us!

We sort of know what Christianity is about but we don’t know enough to tell folks why we believe one way or the other. When someone asks us how to be a Christian we tell them to go to church or call the preacher. Brothers and sisters it ought not to be so!

I want to offer you a small challenge. The bible contains 66 books. Choose any one of them and adopt it as your book of the bible. I highly recommend the New Testament books if you’re just starting out.

Read it daily. It doesn’t matter how much you read as long as you read daily. After you have read your daily amount, take 5 minutes to think about what you have read. Apply whatever you learn to your life for that day.

Continue to do this for 30 days. At the end of that 30 days find someone and share with them what you have learned. If you follow these instructions faithfully you’ll find you are closer to God. If not, email me and we’ll work on it together.

(Hebrews 4:12 KJV) For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Big Russ and Me: Father and Son: Lessons of Life

Big Russ and Me: Father and Son: Lessons of Life I knew nothing about Tim Russert… – Lillian36 – United States
until I read this book. I did enjoy the book, reading about his childhood and his father. I also found his Catholic upbringing very interesting to read about. He was very devout in his religion. I loved hearing about the Nuns and Priests that taught him.

I wish that he would have written more about his mother and three sisters. They were barely mentioned in the book. I would like to know how he got along with his sisters, the kind of influence his mother was on him, etc., but none of that was talked about. When his parents were divorced it was mentioned but glossed over very quickly which I found odd.

Toward the end of the book when the chapters turned to politics it was all about him, and only a mention here or there of his father. He had grown up and moved out by that point, so I’m sure his father wasn’t as central a figure in his life as he had been, but still, this book was supposed to be about him and his father, not just himself.

The book wasn’t sequential at all, which I found very confusing. One minute he’s telling a story from his childhood and the next he’s going to college. It was hard to keep track of how old he was or what was going on because there was no timeline.

Overall an okay book. Not gripping and not one that I had a hard time putting down.
Big Russ and me – Debbie K. Garnier – Illinois
I am very disappointed in the quality of this CD. The second time we listened to this book it had noisy flaws on the CD’s and could not listen to the story.
great seller – Diane Thiel – Tifton, GA
my book arrived promptly and in great shape. i would buy from this seller again.
: Tim Russert’s #1 New York Times bestseller — now in paperback.

Now in paperback — the #1 best-selling Father’s Day book of 2004, with over half a million copies sold in hardcover. Tim Russert, one of America’s most watched and trusted news anchors‚ connected with readers across the nation with his critically acclaimed memoir about growing up in the 1950s and the special bond between fathers and sons. Veteran newsman and Meet the Press moderator Tim Russert is known for his direct and unpretentious style and in this charming memoir he explains why. Russert’s father is profiled as a plainspoken World War II veteran who worked two blue-collar jobs while raising four kids in South Buffalo but the elder Russert’s lessons on how to live an honest, disciplined, and ethical life are shown to be universal. Big Russ and Me, a sort of Greatest Generation meets Tuesdays with Morrie, could easily have become a sentimental pile of mush with a son wistfully recalling the wisdom of his beloved dad. But both Russerts are far too down-to-earth to let that happen and the emotional content of the book is made more direct, accessible, and palatable because of it. The relationship between father and son, contrary to what one would think of as essential to a riveting memoir, seems completely healthy and positive as Tim, the academically gifted kid and later the esteemed TV star and political operative relies on his old man, a career sanitation worker and newspaper truck driver, for advice. Big Russ and Me also traces Russert’s life from working-class kid to one of broadcast journalism’s top interviewers by introducing various influential figures who guided him along the way, including Jesuit teachers, nuns, his dad’s drinking buddies, and, most notably, the late New York Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, whom Russert helped get elected in 1976. Plenty of entertaining anecdotes are served up along the way from schoolyard pranks to an attempt to book Pope John Paul II on the Today Show. Though not likely to revolutionize modern thought, Big Russ and Me will provide fathers and sons a chance to reflect on lessons learned between generations. –Charlie Williams

Oklahoma Owes Citizens More Than $260 Million In Unclaimed Money

The city of Antlers, OK bills itself “The Deer Capital Of The World”. By the city’s name alone, one can guess a lot of bucks are running-around in the woods of Oklahoma. Hundreds of millions of lost bucks are also in the State’s Treasury Department and, you guessed it- they’re not brown and furry and their not running around. I’m talking about the $260 million in Oklahoma unclaimed money sitting-around in the State Treasurer’s Office. These funds belong to roughly 350,000 residents who have somehow lost track of them over the years. The main reason the state’s fund got so big is because most of the owners don’t even know they have money being held by the state!

“I didn’t know I had it.” says Leiland Osmond, after being reunited with $150 of his missing money in an Oklahoma unclaimed property outreach program at the State Fair. Oklahoma State Treasurer Scott Meacham says he’s not alone. “Obviously, a lot of people have lost money and don’t realize it.” says the Treasurer in a recent report by Oklahoma’s KSBI-TV. Visiting the fair paid-off for Osmond who plans to share his newly found money. “My grandchildren will take care of it.”

An extra $150 is enough to brighten anyone’s day, but in another report by NewsOK, a resident of Norman, Oklahoma made off with a lot more than that . The lucky unclaimed asset owner was reunited with $30,000 from some lost AT&T stocks he had forgotten about. According to Tim Allen, spokesman for the State Treasurer’s office, the stocks were sold by the State and the proceeds were place in the state’s Unclaimed Property Fund until the citizen found and claimed them.

Unclaimed properties are intangible financial assets (except for safe deposit box contents) that have been deemed ‘abandoned’ by their owners. State law requires these assets to be turned over to the state after a period of inactivity. According to the Oklahoma Department of Treasury website, “Evidence of this inactivity includes failure to cash a check, the return of a check or correspondence by the Post Office as undeliverable, or the absence of any communication from the owner.”

According to the General Provisions of Oklahoma’s Unclaimed Property Rules, qualifying ‘intangible property’ comes in the following forms:

(A) monies, checks, drafts, deposits, interests, dividends and income;

(B) credit balances, customer overpayments, gift certificates, security deposits, refunds,

credit memos, unpaid wages, unused airline tickets, and unidentified remittances.

(C) stocks and other intangible ownership interests in business associations;

(D) monies deposited to redeem stocks, bonds, coupons and other securities, or to make

distributions;

(E) amounts due and payable under the terms of insurance policies;

(F) amounts due and payable under the terms of mining or mineral leases; and

(G) amounts distributable from trusts or custodial funds established under a plan to provide health, welfare, pension, vacation, severance, retirement, death, stock purchase, profit sharing, employee savings, supplemental unemployment insurance, or similar benefits.

People lose track of these assets when they move and forget to leave behind a forwarding address resulting in lost and uncashed checks and the like. Death is also a common cause of financial assets being lost especially if there’s no will and the next of kin can’t be located. Most of the time, unclaimed property owners just plain forget about their finances in the rush of day to day living.

Residents of Oklahoma and other states should check and do an on-line unclaimed money search. They might just find out the government owes them money this time and not the other way around.

Unclaimed money and property expert Russ Johnson has been assisting Americans in finding their unclaimed money online since 1997. His site, http://www.unclaimedmoney.net, is updated regularly and offers guaranteed official searches for Oklahoma unclaimed money and missing money across the country.

Love – The Manifestation of Love

Filed under: Russ Tim — Tags: — remxperez @ 11:58 pm

(Luke 2:10 KJV) And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

Everyone wants to be loved. God is love. Whether we realize it or not each of us has an innate need of God. God designed us to need him and to desire his love for us.

God began manifesting (showing) himself to man in the Garden of Eden. It was not his actual form because humanity is not designed to be able to see God face to face and survive. God revealed himself as a voice. He taught Adam about the planet he had created for him and worked with him to name the animals. He gave Adam one simple rule; do not eat from the tree of knowledge.

God continued to speak to humanity until the time of Moses when the people begged that God no longer speak to them. They were so afraid of the voice of God that God stopped talking to them audibly. Instead he began sending messengers who would not be so frightening. Angels were sent to share the will of God.

Though God continues to this day sending angels to speak to people he also showed his love by sending us leaders of various types to meet the specific needs of his people. They hold varying titles and offices but they all have one thing in common; they lead and teach the people about God.

God finally decided to walk among us himself. He created a body and entered it and was born as a human child. He spent thirty three years walking among us. He taught and performed miracles and more clearly explained what his love was all about.

Humanity has always been afraid of death. It is the ultimate end of each of us. God knew that death was not an end, as humans saw it, but that it was just a beginning of a better existence.

By sending Jesus to live and to die in our place he has given us the greatest example of love that can ever exist. He allowed his heart to be broken so our hearts could be healed. He exchanged his life for our death so we could exchange our sin for his righteousness.

Had his death been the end of the story it would not have been sufficient. In raising from the dead to a glorified life, Christ has shown us that we too can live in a glorified existence. You may have missed one of your Christmas presents this year. If so, go back and open the one from God and embrace the eternal life he has given you through the graciousness of his love.

(John 14:21 KJV) He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

Companies Are Waking Up to the Work at Home Call

More and more companies are seeing the benefits of offering work at home options to their employees.

According to a report at MarketWatch, Hilton Hotels Corporation is rolling out a flexible home based work at home program for reservation agents. Because the program is so desirable to prospective employees, Hilton will be able to recruit the most experienced and talented workers.

“Today’s consumer demands a heightened level of customer service, and HRCC delivers with motivated home-based sales and service professionals,” said Russ Olivier, senior vice president, HRCC. “Today, more than 800 Hilton@Home agents book global travel and provide customer care for more than 3,000 hotels with 500,000 rooms among nine brands that comprise the Hilton Family of Hotels. This unique career offering from a world-class organization attracts experienced and educated professionals who may not otherwise consider a customer contact position in the typical call center environment.”

Work at home agents will be able to choose their own work schedules online, 24/7. This allows many people who would not consider working in a call center environment to consider this type of job. Many employees are stay-at-home parents and those caring for others in their home.

JetBlue has had a successful telecommuting policy for many years. Eighty percent of JetBlue’s reservation agents work from home. The company reports that allowing employees to telecommute has not only saved them money and expensive office space… it’s also increased productivity.

“We initiated our at-home program when we first started the airline,” says Margot Miller, manager of reservations at JetBlue, which is based in Salt Lake City, Utah. “Having come from a call center environment prior to my JetBlue experience, people tend to be a little more productive in their own environment… and most people like to work at home because it saves time and gas, and it’s easier on their families.”

In a recent news report Virginia Governor Tim Kaine was quoted as having asked all state agencies to consider tele-working. He says it would help to defray rising fuel costs and traffic congestion. According to the article, “At the Department of Taxation, nearly 600 employees tele-work. The government estimates that saves more than 45,000 gallons of fuel annually.”

Some companies have decided to close their offices and go completely virtual. PC World recently reported that Chorus, a provider of clinical, practice management and financial software for health care providers, closed its Hasbrouck Heights, N.J., headquarters in early June and its other office, in Stafford, Texas (outside of Houston), in early July; that means all of the company’s 35 employees and full-time consultants work at home.

Chorus CIO, Rick Boyd stated that the company decided to close its offices to save money (an estimated $400,000 a year) and spare employees the hassle and rising cost of commuting.

Companies that have successful remote work programs have work at home policies in place. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts created a flexible work arrangement worksheet that’s designed to help managers evaluate if an employee’s job tasks can be performed remotely. The worksheet also establishes an agreement between an employee and manager about the employee’s job performance and productivity while working remotely.

Marvin Luz, vice president of client services at Chorus, says his group had specific, common-sense rules it had to follow. For example, they can’t have TVs or stereos on in the background. Nor can they eat while on the phone with customers. These rules are meant to send the message that even though employees work from the casual confines of their homes, they must maintain a certain level of professional decorum while on the clock.

The corporate world is definitely coming around to the idea of telecommuting and this is good news for those looking to work from home and, even better, it’s great news for the environment.

Love – The Need of Love

Filed under: Russ Tim — remxperez @ 7:04 pm

(1 John 4:8 KJV) He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

We are created in the image of God but we are not God. Humanity is a race of beings that has been created in his likeness. The statue of Lincoln in the Lincoln memorial looks like President Lincoln. Nobody would claim that it’s a subset of Lincoln himself, though. It’s an entirely different thing.

Humans are different from God. He is spirit, we are flesh. He’s infinite, we’re finite. He knows everything, we only know some things. We need love and so does God.

He has given us the capacity to need love. We receive it and we give it. It is a tool that he has endowed us with just like any other tool. God uses all the gifts he has given us to enhance our lives and to glorify himself. Man CAN love. God IS love. How then can we claim that God, who is love, needs love? After all isn’t God self sufficient?

Love’s very nature requires an object to be bestowed upon. This is why God must create. In creating he brought objects, beings to life who may benefit from his nature. Love, however, does not travel in one direction. When God shares his love with us we don’t just receive it. We are so enthralled with his wonderful gift that we shower him with love in return.

Love is so powerful that it cannot be contained. It bursts forth and spews onto whatever is within its reach. God is everywhere so his love showers the universe. Each of us basks in those loving rays and absorbs as much as we can.

God loves praise, adoration and worship. This is a clear picture of someone who wants to be loved. God loved us so much that while we were still stinkers he allowed his son, Jesus, to die in our place just so we could have the opportunity to enjoy his love forever. Can someone whose nature requires him to be so graceful be devoid of the ability to enjoy love in return?

There is a school of thought that says that God does not need love. Oh, he wants it, they claim, but it is not a need. The very act of wanting implies a lack. You see, God, in his infinite wisdom has done something never before seen in the universe.

He has given away a part of himself. When he gave us the ability to make choices to accept or reject his love he gave up a piece of his sovereignty. God has put himself on the line by spreading himself throughout the universe and by delegating power.

To say that God needs love isn’t completely accurate. God needs you and me to return the love that he has been so generous to entrust to us.

(1 John 4:16 KJV) And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
