Flowmaster Improves the Sound of Your Mustang

The history of the Flowmaster brand of exhaust mufflers for the Mustang is an interesting one. Perhaps you have heard of this brand, which began in 1983 in California. The event which launched this company was that racers were told that they must either find a way to race their cars more quietly or discontinue racing their vehicles due to excessive engine noise.

The founder of the company, Ray Flugger, had over 45 years of experience with designing exhaust and Mustang header systems. Ray was able to design a new Mustang exhaust system that finally worked to silence the engine, without reducing any of the machine’s performance and racing capabilities.

Latest and stimulating designs for new engines are being overseen by Ray Flugger who is still on job at the top of Flowmaster company and whose designs people still use even this day. A range of Mustang headers are also made by the company these days. These designs help to have more air into the engine thereby permits added muscles from the engine.

No matter where you are driving your Mustang – locally, on long distance trips, or even on a race track – you want your engine to work at its optimal efficiency. Maintaining a clean engine that operates efficiently will extend the life of any vehicle, and will save a Mustang owner a great deal of money over the life of the car.

Maintaining the quiet operation and the efficiency of the machine is also essential to the Mustang exhaust system. Owning a noisy car, regardless of where you live, is a nuisance to your neighbors, and can even result in large fines if the local officers find your car is too loud.

One of a person’s most prized possessions is their car and finding a quality brand of products backed by years of reputable service can be hard to locate. Mechanics on the racetrack were scratching their heads in frustration but Ray Flugger solved his dilemma with Flowmaster. By using the trusted and time tested brand of Flowmaster, his car’s performance and sound increased noticeably thereby solving problems for all Mustang enthusiasts.

The history of the Flowmaster brand of exhaust mufflers for the Mustang is an interesting one. Racers were told that they must either find a way to race their cars more quietly or discontinue racing their vehicles due to excessive engine noise. Ray Flugger used his over 45 years of experience designing exhaust and header systems for Mustangs to create a new Mustang exhaust system that allowed the engine to run more quietly without affecting the car’s racing and performance capability. Now the business manufactures different Mustang headers as well, which work to impart a greater quantity of air into the machine’s engine, letting the engine produce greater power.

Are You a Day-Tripper Or a Night Rider?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Riding your motorcycle is fun, day or night! If you want to do a bit of night-riding, here are a few easy-to-follow tips to consider. Remember that when you are riding during the day, it’s hard enough for motorists to see a motorcycle, and when you are riding at night, you can be almost invisible unless you’re wearing the proper reflective clothing and are riding a white bike loaded with lots of extra lights. If you’re on a long highway trip, try to minimize your night riding. This can be especially vital if you are older and are finding your vision is somewhat impaired. When you are traveling down the highway, keep your low beam on, but be ready to use your high beams. You will see farther down the road and light up any hazards or objects along the highway.

As a rule of thumb wear good bright reflectors on your helmet and jacket. Remember also that noise can carry a long way at night, so if you have loud pipes or one of the sport-exhaust systems such as flowmaster exhaust or Samson exhaust, these can definitely add to the decibels and will carry farther at night than any other time of the day.

Remember to wear good warm clothing, because the temperature usually drops at night. Carrying a good, bright flashlight in your saddlebag along with a cell phone with good batteries is always a good practice. Animals love to travel at night and especially deer, so be prepared to stop completely, if necessary, to avoid striking or being struck by a deer. One golden rule that should never be broken is, never drink and ride, and always be wary of drunk drivers. Take rounding curves with caution as loose gravel or sand may send you into a skid. Try to stay away from bad neighborhoods where someone may attempt to steal your bike or damage it. It is important to be very comfortable with your day riding skills before you attempt to ride your bike after dark.

How To Install A Magnaflow Muffler On A Mini Cooper S

1. Your Magnaflow exhaust package comes with three pieces–a resonator, center pipe, and muffler section. The front resonator comes with a mounting flange that bolts right onto your stock catalytic converter. This part connects to a center pipe that is secured with exhaust clamps, which are supplied. And the rear muffler section joins together, exiting the car in the center of the rear bumper. Also, all the parts are stainless steel, which don’t rust or stain–nice job Magnaflow.

2. Now to the installation. You will only need a few common tools to remove your stock exhaust; no exhaust cutters are needed. Make sure you have help installing the system, it is very heavy and you will not want to drop it.

3. First, you will remove the factory skid plate/ heat shield from the chassis, which can be down with a socket wrench. Important–Do Not lose this piece as it will be re-installed after you install your new exhaust system.

4. Now follow the factory exhaust up towards the catalytic converter. You will now need to remove the mid exhaust mounting bracket from the chassis as well using a socket. Make sure you slip the exhaust hangers out of the rubber mounting brushings. Set this piece aside with your head shield as you will be reusing it also.

5. Now find the flange on the catalytic converter. It will have two bolts that you will need to remove. Be careful in this process because your whole exhaust system is only supported by two rear hangers on the muffler. This is where it will be handy to have a helping hand. Have your buddy hold up the front section of the system, otherwise it will crash to the ground.

6. You can now go to the back of the car and free the factory exhaust by removing the hangers from the rubber bushings. Congratulations, your factory exhaust has now been removed. You are one step closer to hearing your car’s new growl.

7. If you have gotten the factory exhaust off, you are pretty much in the clear. You will install your Magnaflow system in the reverse order of taking the old one off. You can start by matching up the resonator section with the flange to the flange on the catalytic converter and bolting them together. They slip the connecting pipe into the resonator pipe and clamp it down with the supplied clamp. This piece also connects to the factory chassis mount you removed earlier. Be sure to secure the hangers into the rubber bushings.

8. One more step. Connect the muffler section to the connecting pipe. The best way to do this is to slip the exhaust hangers on the muffler into the hanging rubber bushing first, then swing the rear section up and fit it into the connecting pipe. Then all that’s left to do is tighten down the supplied clamp. I would recommend making sure all your connections are tight and you muffler tips exit your bumper straight. Oh yea, and don’t forget to re-install that skid plate/heat shield.

9. You have just installed your Magnaflow exhaust system. Turn the car and make sure you don’t have any exhaust leaks. If everything is good, then you’re golden. Enjoy your Mini’s new throaty growl and boost in horsepower. Keep working on your Mini folks!

Upgrading your Muffler to a Magnaflow exhaust is just one modification that can increase your car’s performance. There exists a plethora of parts that will pick up your car’s pace. Just remember, avoid those speeding tickets. –Mike Rosania

Trick My Truck – Chevrolet Silverado Performance Add Ons to Increase Horsepower and Fuel Economy

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Despite increasing gas prices, trucks and SUV’s are still among the best selling and most profitable of automobiles available. And coming in at a close second, the aftermarket community is just as profitable as most owners look for the right mix of personalization and performance to further set themselves apart from the crowd. That’s what makes customizing a new or pre-owned truck an unforgettable experience. The great news is, that most aftermarket add-ons are readily available and take little effort to install using simple hand tools and a couple hours of your time. I will go over a brief list of some of the most popular and cheapest performance accessories to make that truck more powerful, more economical, and have an enhanced satisfaction value.

One of the easiest and most affordable add-ons is of course a high flow air filter. Not only will this allow the truck’s engine to breath more efficiently, but will give you a part that is reusable. In the long run, this will save the enthusiast in maintenance costs and will give the driver a fuel economy boost of 1-3 mpg on average. In addition, manufacturers like K&N and Airaid have a wide selection of air filters to choose from for any make and model of automobile, these retail for only $35-55 and the benefits will exceed itself in a matter of months. I would also recommend the fuel injection intake kits if money is no object, again these install in less than 45 minutes and have the same function as a basic air filter. These are also available in a cold air variety that feeds air from behind an air dam or bumper, therefore getting more increase of horsepower.

One such other add-on that is most popular is a custom exhaust. To compliment a more free flowing intake system, a quality exhaust is a must and will help dispel of all the burnt gases from the engine efficiently. An aftermarket system will also enhance performance figures and give it’s driver a slight edge in fuel economy as well. There are some exhaust systems from Borla and Magnaflow that have a bolt on kit available which will eliminate welding work and having to bring your ride to a muffler shop. But for a more economical system, Flowmaster has a wide variety of kits that cost only several hundred dollars and is the most popular. In your exhaust search, try to focus on stainless steel kits to help hinder rust for many years to come. And most kits come complete with all the hardware-muffler(s), tubing, hangers, clamps, bolts, instructions, you get the picture. But best of all, a custom exhaust will give the truck a nice throaty sound that only a muscle car can do.

And finally, another basic add-on is a performance chip. Made available by companies like Hypertech and Superchips, a performance chip will re-educate the computer system in your truck to adjust shift points to better your fuel economy. These chips take very little time to install, less than 15 minutes in most cases, and cost around a $100 on average in most autos. A more technological accessory is a power programmer, this tool does everything a chip does, but there is more driver intervention of specs of your engine vitals. You can literally customize your truck’s computer more completely than just a chip. But beware, these programmers cost more than 3 times the performance chip, and it’s worth every penny.

And so there is my short list of performance goodies anyone can install in an afternoon’s time. Additionally, these parts will not affect your manufacturers warranty. There are other inexpensive performance add-ons like hedders, mass air flow sensors, and transmission shift kits to consider, but require a little more work. The overall end product however, will be one of complete amazement and satisfaction as you finally turn the key and feel the results!

Crank Your Ride’s Volume to 11 With Flowmaster

Image : http://www.flickr.com

A wise man with teased hair and a double-neck bass guitar once said, “The bigger the cushion, the sweeter the pushing.” While he may not have been talking about the roar of an exhaust system, the sentiment is closely related – the bigger the tone, the sweeter the ride. If you’re looking to crank your auto’s volume up to 11, Flowmaster has the tubes for you.

Never heard of Flowmaster before? Their saga started way back in 1983, the same year when Megadeth, Stryper and Fates Warning were founded. At the time, new noise regulations were threatening to curb California Sprint Car drivers’ ability to race at a number of different tracks. They hunted around for an exhaust system that could muffle the bark of their motors without dampening their bite, but all the conventional designs choked back their performance. Then, like an intrepid roadie who swoops in to right a fallen Stonehenge prop mid-performance, Ray Flugger, the founder of Flowmaster, stepped on the scene, developed his first racing silencer, and changed the sound of speed demons forever.

Even though Flowmaster made their bones building mufflers to turn down the ear-splitting sound of thoroughbred racecars, their modern custom exhaust systems do just the opposite to your stock ride. Their complete cat-back exhaust systems come in two strengths: the Force II and the American Thunder. The Force II exhaust system is more like a strong power ballad – it’ll make the hair on the back of your neck stand up, but it won’t blow your socks off. The American Thunder exhaust, though, is a full-throttle rocker – think the chainsaw solo from Jackyl’s The Lumberjack coming out your tailpipe. How do you decide between the two? Consider this: if you want to maintain a healthy relationship with your neighbors, go with the Force II. If you want an exhaust system that’s loud enough to make your drummer spontaneously combust, go with the American Thunder.

Because both of these are complete replacement exhaust systems, they might be beyond your budget. Luckily, you can swap out just your muffler with a throatier Flowmaster model to get all the sound but not as much performance gain. There are a lot of mufflers to choose from, but they break down into three basic groups: mild, moderate and aggressive. The milder group consists of the 50 Big Block, 70 Series, 50 SUV and 60 Delta mufflers. On the moderate squad are the 50 Delta, 50 HD and Hushpower II mufflers. Then, the aggressive big boys are made up of the 60 Series, 40 Delta, Super 40 and Super 44 mufflers – real firecrackers, those ones.

When you’re ready to blast a stronger exhaust tone, break like the wind and bolt on a fire-breathing Flowmaster. From complete cat back exhaust system kits to replacement mufflers, Flowmaster builds a wide range of exhaust upgrades that can be installed right in your driveway.
