Hurt seeks $1 million in TV ad defamation suit

Carla Winteringham settles into new principal position in East Jordan

With her first week down as the new principal at East Jordan Elementary, Carla Winteringham has one word to describe the experience: “fabulous.”

The Whitehall native moved to East Jordan about two weeks ago, after she was hired as the district’s new elementary principal. However, she is no stranger to the area. Winteringham previously taught at Elk Rapids Public Schools, and also has family in the area.

“I coached basketball in Elk Rapids, and we played games here. I knew this was a beautiful area. Whitehall is a small town with beautiful scenery, and so is East Jordan,” she said.

Winteringham currently has two master’s degrees; one in educational leadership and one in teaching. While she was completing her education at Aquinas College and Western Michigan University, she knew she wanted to be a elementary principal.

Winteringham was also attracted to the district’s mission.

“I picked East Jordan because their missions of student success and individualized teaching matched my beliefs and I think that is very important,” she said.

Currently, there are more than 400 students in the elementary. By the end of the year Winteringham hopes to raise the school’s overall academic scores. Two men sought in abduction, sexual assault
