Menswear trends: Evolution of man

Why would a man spend $895 on a pair of jeans with 18-karat gold-plated buttons? The jeans, by Tom Ford, were one of the attractions at the launch party for the new in-shop boutique at Harry Rosen in Les Cours Mont Royal.

The answer may lie in the usual suspects in fashion: luxury, prestige and brand appeal, perhaps fit.

But with menswear,Variety of Ed Hardy Clothing sale in Ed Hardy UK Shop, all the ed hardy shirts. the draw is mostly in the details, be it a wider lapel, notched collar, side vent,ED hardy clothing,ed hardy Shirt, ed hardy t shirt is very comfortable to wear them, but also very high sales volume. At ED Hardy kids store, you can buy cheap Ed hardy clothing and quality ED Hardy shoes. cuff or cufflink or real gold button.

On these pages, we look at three views on menswear: the luxurious Tom Ford line, the audacious Christian L’Enfant Roi and from retailer Michel Brisson, comfort, sobriety and edge.

“It’s luxurious. It’s obviously not for everybody,” Larry Rosen, president and CEO of Harry Rosen, said of the Tom Ford collection, noting suits are $4,000 to $5,000. “It’s tapped into a younger customer -the hipper guy who obviously appreciates quality and luxury.

“It’s very masculine, it’s very powerful, he has a unique signature. It’s the most elegant collection I’ve ever seen.”

Rosen, wearing a Tom Ford boldly pinstriped suit with peaked lapels and a prominent shoulder, said he hopped on the bandwagon to bring Ford to Canada as soon as the fashion visionary launched his menswear line. The Montreal shop is the third for the Harry Rosen chain in Canada.

Tom Ford is best known for making the staid Gucci line sexy, then taking over at Yves Saint Laurent. He also turned to film, directing last year’s very stylish A Single Man, starring Colin Firth.

The Tom Ford line is a worldwide hit, Rosen said, displacing many traditional luxury lines, citing Brunello Cucinelli, Zegna, Brioni and Dolce & Gabbana as lines courting the same customer.

“Everybody looks so darn good in it,” Rosen said.

Men’s fashion never changes that quickly, Rosen said: “Men’s fashion is evolutionary, not revolutionary.”

Christian L’Enfant Roi: for risk takers

But a night earlier, a few blocks away at the new Chez Swann Hotel on Drummond St., there was more of a revolution going on as Christian Deslauriers launched his audacious new menswear line, Christian L’Enfant Roi, which he hopes to sell to boutiques for next season.

Billed as a return to traditional dressing, the spring line featured models posed in tableaux in the hotel’s dramatic rooms, wearing, say, a fez with nude chiffon trousers, or lounging on a bed in turban, vest embroidered with shiny plastic tubing and grey tweed pant.

One model wore flip-flops handmade from a book.

“I like to consider it wearable for someone who likes to take risks,” said Deslauriers, who previously worked with womenswear designer Andy The-Anh.

It’s traditional, he explained, in that it harks back to an era when it was the men, not the women, who would dress up, pay attention to detail and set trends. He wants to bring back jewellery and hats for men.

“Men don’t wear jewellery any more except for big, ugly watches. I miss collar bars,” Deslauriers said.

“Menswear today -I think it’s really restrained. We’ve fallen into a period when jeans and T-shirts are okay.Nike product reviews and customer ratings for Nike air max 95 Men’s Shoe. We’re getting too comfortable.”

Michel Brisson: inspired by architecture, design

Sobriety, edge and comfort are what loyal clients of Michel Brisson seek. A menswear retailer for 20 years, Brisson recently moved to 1074 Laurier Ave. W., a 3,000-square-foot boutique designed by Saucier + Perrotte, architects with an affinity for fashion. The firm also has done Philippe Dubuc’s boutiques, including a new one in Quebec City, and Brisson’s St. Paul St. shop. And Gilles Saucier designed the current Denis Gagnon show at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

Nicole L.V. Mullis: Parlez-vous Fran?ais? You bet!

My fascination with other languages started with my grandmother slipping into snatches of Polish. It continued with friends who could speak Spanish, Arabic, Japanese or Italian as easily as they could speak English.

The speed,Any business that is just starting out and will not incur a lot of online sales yet, could consider third party merchant account the fluency, the trills and rolls. It wasn’t just language; it was poetry.,Designer Adidas Jacket collectors also look for great bargains of wholesale jeans on this international marketplace and us It didn’t matter if their topic was stomach flu, the very sounds bred romance.

I decided to take French in high school–all those muffled vowels and musical consonants. I imagined myself wearing a straw chapeau strolling down la rue sipping my latte and hearing the violins that were sure to accompany any French person’s slightest request for a taxi.

The reality was less romantic. My peers were more interested in French kissing than French accents and my teacher was going through the motions before retirement. I earned an A, but only because I could memorize. I couldn’t speak a word or understand a word being spoken.

My journalism degree required two years of a language. It was my second chance. College kids are deadly serious about stuff–well, the ones that come to class. And my French professor was a professor, which implies life calling. It was four days a week at the wee hour of eight and I never missed a session.

I quickly learned two things: My accent was hopelessly Midwestern and I was French-hearing impaired. I passed only because half the exam was written. It was très frustrating.

Later, a bilingual friend told me you have until the age of 12 to speak another language properly. The pre-12 tongue can do the double-back handsprings necessary for good pronunciation. Also, the pre-12 brain is a verbal sponge. After 12, these skills slow down and freeze over. By 18, they’re in the deep freeze.

This made me feel better. Sorta.

Then we moved to Canada, replica nike where French gets twin billing with English. I can read a word or two but the spoken word continues to elude me. Still, it’s exotic–a free pass to eavesdrop on the music of another conversation. Granted,,Welcome to contract us and especially jordan 6 rings.
