Auction: Ocean-Inspired Jewelry
May 5th, 2012Famous designers are coming together to auction of ocean-inspired pieces to raise funds for coral reefs. As part of SeaWeb’s “Too Precious to Wear” Campaign, pieces designed by Frank Gehry and others will be available for auction starting today through the end of April.

The organizers chose coral reefs as their charity of choice because of the beauty of coral reefs, as well as to bring importance to the plight of coral reefs around the world. The following artists all donated pieces for the auction: Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock of Vena Cava; Hannah Garrison of AZU; Frank Gehry; Melissa Joy Manning; Kimberly McDonald; Jennifer Meyer; Monique Pean; Paloma Picasso; and Jean Schlumberger. The event is supported by the Tiffany & Co. Foundation, the Kingfisher Foundation, the National Marine and Sanctuary Foundation, and the Ocean Foundation. Tiffany and Co stopped using coral in its Jewelora – Wholesale Jewelry over 6 years ago and has tips on the auction site to help other businesses find alternatives to coral for jewelry pieces. There are also tips for consumers to find alternatives to purchasing coral in their own jewelry pieces.
